Help us to continue to inspire children of all ages and abilities to imagine, discover, and connect with their world to make a difference!
Discovery Gateway: The Children's Museum of Utah, has been creating lasting family memories and educating and inspiring generations of Utah children for more than 36 years. We exist as an informal learning environment where hands-on play is used as a catalyst for learning. Our exhibits and programs are designed to address the many ways that children learn, as well as to help parents understand and support their children's development. The museum’s main focus is to utilize an informal learning environment as the path to prepare young children for school readiness and academic success, and to cultivate lifelong learning.
Our Programs and Exhibits:
Artworks - The foundation for education with many of our exhibits and programming. This includes the Garden, Story Factory, Studio, Early Childhood Classes, Family Workshops, Discovery School Workshops, Community Outreach, Free First Saturdays Arts Programming, and Cultural Programming.
STEM Learning - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics programming and exhibits help inspire children and families to learn through experimentation. Besides our Construction Zone, Kids Eye View Gallery, Workshop Room, Media Zone, Intermountain Health Care Primary Children's Hospital Zone, and weekly science classes, our Reaction Time program visits every 5th grade classroom in the State of Utah.
Weekly Classes - These include Music in Motion, Creative Kids, Little Scientist, Dollars and Cents, Science Matters, and open Imagination Station activities on weekends.
Why Do We Matter?
Without Discovery Gateway, more than 250,000 children, parents, and educators statewide would not experience the many innovative and experiential exhibits housed within our walls each year. There would be limited access to the hands-on learning that inspires a quarter-million minds to imagine what they could become. More than 49,000 students and teachers could not explore chemistry with our Science Outreach Instructors, and more than 11,000 children and parents who attend early childhood programming in our Curiosity Shop would not have the chance to delve into art, financial literacy, science, and reading beginning at just 18-months of age.
